Wines and grapes varieties
CORNALINCornalin is a true treasure, part of the ampelographic heritage of Valais, one of the longest planted grape varieties in the canton. Written records show that it was grown under the name “Neyrum” in 1313. Recently, the enthusiasm of connoisseurs has led to an upsurge of interest. Cornalin discouraged decades of growers who considered it a difficult grape: sparing with its fruit, it insists on having the best sunny exposures. It matures late and is capricious. But it is ultimately a very aristocratic grape variety, which explains its rebirth. It boasts a magnificent colour, with deep violet lights, and it has a deliciously complex bouquet. Its body is perfect – slightly turbulent when it is young but developing with age into a wine of almost mythological finesse.
